Our Story

Positive Concepts Ltd was incorporated at the Durham University Mountjoy Research Centre in 1993 with financial assistance from the UK government and support from Durham University Business School.

The company was developing a new Point Of Sale Information In Virtual Environments, to assist small UK and other retailers provide TV advertising in the Post Office section of their shops for local retailers and service providers. The system also provided a recommended list of Brands to stock and sell based on Bayesian analysis of leading local retailers selections from wholesalers, using the Acorn listing assessment of each retailers geo-commercial environment.



In 1995, under the 4th framework, Positive Concepts qualified for a European Commission grant to provide a similar service for eastern european retailers in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and the company also became a technical advisor to the European Commissions Directorate 23. Our role was to assist the Commission assess the commercial capability of the applicant members of the European Union to survive joining the Union, given their soviet command economy background.



In 1996 Positive Concepts was invited to assist leading IT firms, Proekspert AS in Estonia, DATI in Latvia and ALNA in Lithuania to provide IT outsourcing services to firms in developed markets of the UK, British Telecom, Sweden, Ericsson, Finland, Finnish Telecom - Sonera and Nokia. In 1999 this led to Positive Concepts Ltd investing in the Euro-Baltic Software Alliance OY that represented east European IT firms outsourcing work from Finland.



In 2000 Positive Concepts won contracts to provide solutions for mobile messaging for Sonera and later won the Estonian government contract to provide mobile messaging for the Estonian Ministry of Finance and other contracts for the Estonian Post Office. In 2005 we assisted Proekspert become a subsidiary of the private Danish firm, DANFOSS.

From 2007 the Directors of Positive Concepts decided to invest in new opportunities. The firm invested in assisting local communities in north west Scotland evaluate potential wind farm sites.Wind Power Resources Ltd worked with several partners, then in 2008 it commissioned Kilmac Energy to develop a site on the Isle of Skye.

In 2008 Positive Concepts assisted New Frontier Holdings to assess possible investment in east European IT firms and later assisted Icon GMBH and subsequently Icon International AG to find potential partners for their ICON Dopix software solutions.

In 2011 Positive Concepts became the Commercial Advisor to Anakata, an innovative micro wind turbine designer. In 2012 we also assisted Dynamique to create a new aero-dynamic service to improve the aero-dynamic efficiency of large vehicles to reduce their fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Also, in 2012 we were invited to assist the Dragon Design Foundation at the World Green Design Forum in Brussels and again, to assist them organise European speakers for the World Green Design Forum in Yanzhou in 2013

In 2013 Positive Concepts became the European and Chinese representative of AgriProtein to assist them identify potential partners for developing their patented systems in Europe and China.

 

In 2013 we refocused on the Glen Ullinish wind farm project and assisted the new development company Kilmac Energy to achieve a unanimous planning consent for a 14 turbine / 42mw wind farm.

 

In 2014 we began to research the potential market for an UK based Agriprotein production unit in Scotland, together with the founders of Agriprotein south Africa and North America.

 

In 2015 we were invited to assist the board of the Island of Rum Community Trust to review ways in which Rum could become a more self sufficient unit.
